PST Training NZ

Training in PST for people at risk of self harm is being offered at four District Health Boards in New Zealand throughout 2008. The training programme consists of a one day workshop followed by three months of supervision.

In the one day workshops we will train attendees in the use of PST for people at risk of self harm. We will explain the seven steps of PST in detail, using role play, video and exercises and we will provide attendees with manuals and other written materials. By the end of the workshop attendees should have a clear understanding of what PST is and how to use it. In addition we will cover topics specific to this client group such as risk assessment, issues with engagement and relapse prevention.

After the workshop we will provide a three month period of supervision where participants can talk to trainers about issues or questions that arise when using PST with clients. Three face-to-face sessions will be provided in addition to regular telephone contact.

We have approached senior managers at four District Health Boards (Northland DHB, Waitemata DHB, Counties Manukau DHB and Capital & Coast DHB and associated PHOs) to advise them of the training programme. We have requested that potential participants are selected by their team managers. We regret that we are unable to accept registrations from people employed outside these DHBs/PHOs and we are unable to accept individual registrations that have not been endorsed by the liaison personnel at the DHBs/PHOs involved. We require each potential participant to fill out the participant profile and the pre-workshop questionnaire before attending the workshop.

Registration for the training programme (workshops and supervision) is free. Workshops take a full day and morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided. Workshop Plan
